Futures Program

The Futures Program is the first level of the Basketball BC High Performance Program and is aligned with Canada Basketball's overall Targeted Athlete Strategy (TAS).

The Futures Program:
  • is for "invited" boys and girls, entering Grade 7 and 8 in the fall (born in 2004 or 2005) 
  • consists of a 3 day High Performance Camp, held on December 27-29, 2017.
  • promotes the development of basketball skills by introducing athletes to Canada Basketball's terms of reference, drills, and systems to assist them in becoming familiar with the Canadian style of play
  • provides identification for the next level of Basketball BC's High Performance Program, Centre for Performance (CP)
  • provides early identification of future Cadet age players

Players born in 2004 and 2005 will be eligible for participation in the 2019 FIBA America and 2020 FIBA World Championships

Futures Camp

The “Futures” Camp:
  • is by “invitation only”  Player must be nominated by a club or school coach - see below for nomination instructions
  • is based on FIBA points of emphasis and concepts of play with a designed structure and format in developing multi-skilled players
The athlete needs to meet one of three criteria for invitation:
  •  Skill: Athlete is highly skilled in basketball for her/his age
  •  Athleticism: Athlete has limited skills but is very athletic (Speed, Agility, Quickness)
  •  Size: Girls - 5’10 or taller; Boys - 6’2 or taller

Location: Trinity Western University, David E Enarson Gym
Date: December 27-29, 2017
Girls: 9am – noon
Boys: 1pm – 4pm

Fee:  $75 (fee will not be adjusted for partial participation)
(A current Basketball BC Athlete membership is required for participation.  You do not have to purchase the membership separately.  The membership fee of $15 will be added to the registration)

Registration: ONLINE ONLY BY INVITATION  Player must be nominated by a club or school coach

Registration deadline:  December 17, 2017
Please register before the deadline.  In accordance with Basketball BC policy, all participants must be preregistered to attend the camp.

Participants receive:
  • camp t-shirt
  • 9 hours of instruction from trained/certified coaches

Nomination Instructions
If you are a coach and you wish to nominate a player, complete the 
Nomination Form and email the form to Gail Wilson by the nomination deadline.  If the nomination is accepted, the family must contact Basketball BC for the registration information.

Player and coach memberships
  • No refund - player and coach memberships are NON-REFUNDABLE
Player camps and Coaching clinics (including SuperConference)
  • Refund less an administration fee - up to 5 days prior to the start of the program or event
  • No refund - within 5 days of start of the program/event to the end of program/event
  • No refund - for partial participation
Centre for Performance/Regional Training Centre
  • No refund after the start of program.
Provincial Teams
  • Refund less an administration fee – if a replacement player is available to fill the vacant spot.  The refund will be equal to the fee less the sum of the cost of participation to date, cost of provincial team apparel, and an administration fee.
Club Championships and Step Your Game Up 3x3
  • Refund less an administration fee - up to 2 weeks before the start of the tournament or event.
Withdrawal due to injury (must have a doctor’s note)
  • Partial refund MAY be considered on a case by case basis. An administration fee will still be assessed.
Administration Fee
  • The administration fee for all refunds will be assessed at either $25 or 20% of the registration fee, whichever is the lower amount
