November 29th, 2024Coaches Named for Basketball BC U15 U16 and U17 Girls Team BC Programs

Basketball BC Manager of High Performance Shaun McGuinness, is pleased to announce the Coaching staff for the 2025 U15, U16/17 and U17 Girls Team BC Programs. “I am excited that Team BC will be led by Nationally recognized university and college level coaches. Cheryl Jean-Paul, Cam MacGillivary and Randy Nohr are dynamic coaches that have a proven record of coaching excellence at the provincial, post-secondary and national level.”

 

U15 Girls 

Coach Jean-Paul brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our provincial program as she has been involved in High Performance training both at the Provincial and National team level for several years. Most recently she was Head coach of our Cadette National Team, leading them to a second-place finish at the 2020 FIBA Americas and followed up placing 4th at the 2021 FIBA World Championship.

Cheryl has continued to work for Canada Basketball and Basketball BC as an on-court Program Analyst, Coach Mentor and Player evaluator. Cheryl is currently the Head Coach of Trinity Western University Spartans women’s basketball team.

Assistant coaches for the 2025 U15 team are current Junior Academy coaches, Sophie Swant and Connor Ranspot.

The U15 team will be competing this summer at the U15 National Championships in Ontario from Aug 4 to 10.

 

U16/17 Girls 

Cam MacGillivary returns to our provincial program as head coach of our U16/17 Provincial Developmental Team. Cam is a former U17 Team BC head coach and currently is the Head Coach of Langara College Women's Basketball team. Cam also coaches at the Basketball BC Senior Academy.

Assisting Cam will be Morgan McLaughlin, former Team BC head coach and current Junior Academy Coach and Fatemeh Rahmani Moghadam who is a current Junior Academy coach and a former Iranian National Team player. The U16/17 team will train and compete April through June.

 

U17 Girls 

Randy Nohr is returning to coach our U17 Girls Team BC Program.  Last year, he led a young team to a 4th place finish at the National Championships and in 2023, piloted the U15 Girls Team BC to a Gold medal at the National Championships. Randy has also previously coached our U15 Boys Team.

Randy is a nationally recognized coach and player. Having excelled as a player at Langara College and St Francis Xavier, winning National Championships at both. As a university coach he helped guide UBC to several top 8 finishes at the CIS National Championships. He is well known for his passion for the game and his ability to teach the game and excels in preparing his players to reach their potential.

Assisting Randy will be Jalynn Skeir and Ashyana Kumar. Ashyana is returning to the U17 coaching staff and has been involved in our High-Performance program for a number of years. Currently, she coaches at Basketball BC’s Senior Academy. Coach Skeir is the Lead Assistant Coach at UBC. She is originally from Nova Scotia where she was part of Basketball Nova Scotia’s coaching staff at both U15 and U17 provincial teams. She also was an assistant coach at Acadia University. Jalynn most recently was a part of the coaching staff of Canada Basketball’s 2023 and 2024 Cadette National team. Helping to lead the team to a Silver Medal at the FIBA world championships

The U17 team will be part of Team BC at the Canada Summer Games that will take place Aug 8 – 25 in St. John’s Newfoundland. The Canada Games are this country’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes.
