January 16th, 2024Announcement - Introduction of Boys Team BC Select Program

This spring Basketball BC will be introducing a Team BC Select program for Boys players born in 2008 and 2010. The Select Teams will serve to link High Performance program players to continued opportunities for development and competition in a year where their age group is not participating in Canada Basketball National Championships. Players will be selected to the program through U17 and U15 SuperCamps, participation in Fall 2023 Senior and Junior Academies, and/or previous Team BC participation. As with our U15 and U17 Team BC program, schedules will be designed to allow for participation both in the Select Team program and club team programs with no conflict on dates of any consequence.

Select Teams will participate in one June mini camp, during the scholastic viewing period for NCAA coaches where they are not permitted to view AAU events. A second weeklong training camp will be held at the end of July at the conclusion of the summer AAU season, in conjunction with training camps for the U15 and U17 teams heading to Ontario to represent BC at the Canada Basketball National Championships. A final tournament/competition is being organized for the Select Teams at the end of their training camp.

“This schedule is designed to allow players to fully participate with their club teams throughout the spring and summer, while still getting together for high level training and coaching with some of the best players in BC and positioning our teams to excel at the Canada Basketball National Championships the following summer” noted Boys High Performance Manager Matthew McKay. Coaching staff for the Select Teams will be announced in February.
