Congrats to Thomson and Seibel who have been selected to officiate in FIBA events this summer.
FROM CANADA BASKETBALL
TORONTO, ON - This year Canadian basketball international official assignments will be at an all-time high as 13 referees have been selected to partake in 19 assignments for FIBA, Pan Am Games, Women’s EuroBasket, FISU and Tuto Marchand Cup events. This marks the most assignments ever provided to Canadians during one competitive season.
“Congratulations to all of these officials. It is great to see there will be such a Canadian presence throughout the 2015 international competitive season,” said Canada Basketball President & CEO, Michele O’Keefe. “These assignments are a tremendous honour and highlight the skill, credibility and standing these officials have in the global basketball community.”
Three of the 13 Canadians have been selected as commissioners for events: Nadine Crowley (Ottawa), FIBA Americas Women’s Championship in Edmonton; Mike Thomson (Vancouver, BC), FIBA Americas Men’s Championship in Monterrey, Mexico; and Mike Homsy (Montreal, QC), Pan Am Games, Toronto.
“The Canadian Association of Basketball Officials is extremely proud of the recognition of and respect for our representatives on the world’s basketball stage, “said Ted Montgomery, President of Canadian Association of Basketball Officials. “ James Naismith invented basketball and we officials are honoured to play our small part in carrying forward Canada's involvement in the game at the international level.”
10 will act as officials in 11 competitions across the globe, from Toronto to Gwangju, Korea. A full list of assignments below.
"Canadian officials are regarded as some of the top in the world and this year’s assignments are indicative of that," said Karen Lasuik (Edmonton, AB). Lasuik will officiate the EuroBasket for women in Romania and Hungary, as well as the FIBA Americas Women’s Championship in Edmonton.
