Basketball BC is committed to creating a sport environment that is free from all forms of maltreatment. The same level of commitment is expected from its Member Clubs.
The Member Club has implemented Safe Sport policies which are posted on its website. If the Member Club does not have its own policies, it will implement and follow the Safe Sport policies on Basketball BC's website and will post a link to the Basketball BC Polices webpage and state that it has adopted Basketball BC’s policies.
The Member Club may be required to provide its Safe Sport policies to Basketball BC upon request.
Safe Sport policies include but are not limited to: Code of Conduct Policy, Privacy Policy, Harassment Policy, Athlete Safeguarding Policy, Volunteer and Employee Screening Policy, and Drug Free Policy.
Failure to implement Safe Sport policies may affect the Member Club’s insurance coverage.
The Member Club agrees to ensure all its coaches and individuals working directly with youth have passed a Criminal Record Check within the past 5 years.
The Member Club commits to the following minimum coaching requirements:
All Member Club coaches must complete:
Safe Sport Training online course, a free 90-minute online course offered by the Coach Association of Canada.
All Member Club competitive team coaches must have trained status for the applicable NCCP level:
U11 and under: FUNdamentals or Learn to Tarin
U12-U15: Learn to Train or Train to Train
U16-U18: Train to Train
Member Club Coach Education Compliance:
A one-year progression window will be used for Safe Sport Training for all club coaches
A three-year progression window will be used for the NCCP requirements for competitive team coaches
The expectation is that by the end of a coach’s third year coaching with the club, they will meet the NCCP requirements.
Compliance with the NCCP requirements will be flexible based on the availability of coaching clinics offered by Basketball BC.
