Basketball BC is excited to announce the Head Coaches for the 2022 Boys Provincial Teams.
U18 BOYS - Canada Summer Games
Paul Eberhardt, Head Coach Langara College
Paul has coached at all levels of basketball including High School, Provincial Team, National Team and in the CCAA. Coach Ebe guided his RC Palmer Griffins to the ultimate title in BC High School Sports as they won the “AAA” BC Championships in 2011. He then followed that up with back to back PACWEST titles in 2013 & 2014 and he led the Falcons to their first National Title in 15 years beating Red Deer in the finals in 2014. Paul is one of only a handful of coaches who has taken three different teams to the BC High School Championships (Magee, McNair, & RC Palmer) and he also guided the Capilano Blues to a BC Championship and National Final Four in 2003.
U17 Boys - Canada Basketball National Championships
James Blake, Assistant Coach University of Victoria
James Blake joins the Vikes Men's Basketball coaching staff for his first season in 2021-22, returning to Victoria after starting his coaching career with the Vikes. From 2015-17, Blake served as the Director of Basketball Operations on the NCAA Division I UC Irvine coaching staff, highlighted by a 2017 Big West Championship appearance and NIT first round appearance. Prior to Irvine, Blake was the head coach at Simon Fraser University from 2010-15. During the 2014-15 season, his team lead NCAA Division II in four statistical categories, including a 104.2 points per game scoring average. Before SFU, Blake had previous stops as the associate head coach at Columbia College (2009-10), assistant coach at CSU Northridge (2007-09), which featured a Big West Championship title and NCAA Tournament first round appearance in 2009, associate head coach at CSU Stanislaus (2005-07), and assistant coach at Idaho State (2004-05).
U15 Boys - Canada Basketball National Championships
Matthew McKay, Head Coach Douglas College & Anthony Pezzente, Head Coach Holy Cross High School (Co-Head Coaches)
Coach McKay is in his first season leading the Douglas College men’s basketball team. Prior to Douglas, McKay served as an Assistant Coach at Division II Simon Fraser University from 2013-2015 and as Head Coach for a number of successful high school teams in the Delta School District. Coach McKay also serves as Head Coach for the Basketball BC Center for Performance and Manager of Boys High Performance.
Anthony Pezzente has led Holy Cross to a spot as one of the premier 4A boys programs in the province. In addition to his work at Holy Cross, Coach Pezzente has worked as an Assistant Coach with the Basketball BC Center for Performance and served as both Head and Assistant coach at the U14 and U15 levels with the Provincial Team program.
The U18 Boys will be competing at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ontario in August. The U17 and U15 Boys will be competing at the Canada Basketball National Championships in Alberta, location TBA.
