Team BC is designed to attract the top male basketball players in the province at the U15 and U17 age categories, with a goal of being medal contenders at the annual Canada Basketball National Championships. BC’s coaching staff are selected from our Provincial High Performance Coaching pool and include some of the top university and college coaches in British Columbia.
This program is part of our High Performance Programming and is directly linked to Canada Basketball’s National team athlete pathway. Athletes that participate on Team BC will have access to Canada Basketball identification and assessment, occurring throughout their training and at the National Championships. The style of play that is coached and emphasized is generated in alignment with current key concepts of play and point of emphasis from Basketball Canada and is designed through consultation with Basketball BC High Performance staff to best serve the needs of our elite players.
The program is designed to best suit the developmental needs of our players and is compatible with club basketball participation.
Head Coach: Trevor Pridie (Trinity Western University)
Assistant Coach: Taylor Williams (UBC)
Head Coach: Aurel David (Douglas College)
Assistant Coaches: Ryan Shams (Vancouver College), Rupi Dahia (Burnaby South)
This spring Basketball BC will be introducing a Team BC Select program for Boys players born in 2008 and 2010. The Select Teams will serve to link High Performance program players to continued opportunities for development and competition in a year where their age group is not participating in Canada Basketball National Championships. Players will be selected to the program through U17 and U15 SuperCamps, participation in Fall 2023 Senior and Junior Academies, and/or previous Team BC participation. As with our U15 and U17 Team BC program, schedules will be designed to allow for participation both in the Select Team program and club team programs with no conflict on dates of any consequence.
Select Teams will participate in one June mini camp, during the scholastic viewing period for NCAA coaches where they are not permitted to view AAU events. A second weeklong training camp will be held at the end of July at the conclusion of the summer AAU season, in conjunction with training camps for the U15 and U17 teams heading to Ontario to represent BC at the Canada Basketball National Championships. A final tournament/competition is being organized for the Select Teams at the end of their training camp.
“This schedule is designed to allow players to fully participate with their club teams throughout the spring and summer, while still getting together for high level training and coaching with some of the best players in BC and positioning our teams to excel at the Canada Basketball National Championships the following summer” noted Boys High Performance Manager Matthew McKay.
Head Coach: Matthew McKay (Douglas College)
Assistant Coaches: Montell Lindgren (Douglas College), Martin Paul (SFU)
Head Coach: Graham Bonar (Holy Cross High School)
Assistant Coaches: Luke Penner (UBCO), Paul Wright (Ballenas Secondary)
Basketball BC is proud to announce our training and competition schedules for our U15 and U17 Boys Team BC programs as well as the training and competition schedule for U14 and U16 Team BC Select program. Dates have been chosen to avoid major club team/travel tournaments and events and create minimal conflicts with players club and school programs.
As always, Basketball BC supports players participating in both club and Basketball BC programs and endeavors to do everything possible to create an environment where players can do both.
