Basketball BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt McKay as the organization’s next Executive Director, effective June 22, 2026.

Matt transitions into the role from his current position as Manager, Boys High Performance and Youth Development with Basketball BC, where he has played a key leadership role in advancing athlete development pathways and strengthening programming across the province.

Matt will work closely with outgoing Executive Director Shawn Dheensaw through July 3, 2026, to support a smooth leadership transition.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are pleased to welcome Matt into the role of Executive Director,” said Basketball BC President, Stu Graham. “Matt brings a deep understanding of our organization, a strong commitment to the basketball community in British Columbia, and a proven record in delivering impactful programs.

In his time with Basketball BC, Matt has led and enhanced the Boys High Performance program supporting athlete development at provincial and national levels. He has also played a key role in the growth and alignment of youth development programming as well as building a strong relationship with coaches, athletes, member organizations and partners across the provincial basketball landscape. 

His leadership and passion for the game, combined with his experience within Basketball BC, positions him well to guide the organization into its next chapter.”

In his time with Basketball BC, Matt has:

  • Led and enhanced the Boys High Performance pathway, supporting athlete development at provincial and national levels
  • Played a key role in the growth and alignment of youth development programming
  • Built strong relationships with coaches, athletes, member organizations, and partners across the provincial basketball system
  • Demonstrated a commitment to inclusive, athlete-centered, and development-focused programming

Matt’s experience within the organization, combined with his passion for the sport and its continued growth in British Columbia, will support a seamless leadership transition.
