42 ATHLETES INVITED TO WOMEN’S NATIONAL AGE-GROUP ASSESSMENT CAMP
Top Young Athletes to be Considered for 2016 Age-Group Teams

TORONTO, ON (March 15, 2016) - 42 athletes (25 Cadette and 17 Junior) from across the country have been invited to participate in the women’s national age-group assessment camp, taking place at Humber College from March 24-29, 2016.

“2015 was a tremendous year for our women’s high performance program. We look forward to seeing the progress made by these young nationally identified athletes and for our coaches to provide further direction on their individual performance plans,” said Denise Dignard, Director of Women’s High Performance.  “We are committed to long term development of athletes, as well as coaches and key technical staff from across the country, to ensure a constant pipeline to our senior national team program.”

The camp provides a national training environment with international focus to top identified athletes ranging from those born in 1998 and later. National team coaches and technical staff will identify athletes who will be invited to the next activity of the 2016 age-group teams.

The Cadette Team made history by winning Gold at the 2015 FIBA U16 Americas for Women. In 2016, athletes born during 1999 or later will take part in the 2016 FIBA U17World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain from June 22-July 3.

The Junior Team finished 8th in the world at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships. This summer, athletes born during 1998 or later will participate in the 2016 FIBA U18 Americas Championships for Women in Valdivia, Chile from July 13-17.

Canada is currently ranked 4th overall in the FIBA women’s youth rankings.
