For Immediate Release  February 6, 2015


Hall of Fame Chairperson John Buis today announced the inductees into the Basketball BC Hall of Fame for 2015.  Buis noted "this year's inductees are people and teams who have done extraordinary things for our sport, for our province and in many case for Canada.  They include teams who represented BC and Canada at various national and international competitions in the 1930's and 1940's, a builder who has made enormous contributions in the Okanagan and throughout the province , a sports reporter who has covered high school, national, international and professional basketball for over three decades, an athlete who played for Canada in the 1956 Olympic Games and another athlete who starred with Basketball BC and Simon Fraser University and played for Canada on both the FISU and National teams."

          They are:

  • Joby McKenzie (Mission) An integral part of one of the most successful university women’s basketball team including four trips with SFU to National Championships.  Joby joins her Dad Ken McKenzie (2008) in the Hall of Fame
  • Jack May (Kelowna – Builder) – a coach, an official and a long time administrator of basketball in the Okanagan, a fixture with BC High School Boys’ Association and an integral part of the prestigious Western Canada Basketball Tournament
  • Howard Tsumura (Delta – Builder) – his long term, lasting and important contributions to amateur sport are legendary and his focus on basketball has been instrumental in profiling our sport
  • Bob Burtwell (Richmond – deceased) –Captain of the Canadian 1956 Olympic team and member of the Vancouver Clover Leafs and other National Championship teams
  • 1936/37 UBC Men – One of the most successful UBC men’s teams, already in the BC Sport Hall of Fame and the UBC Hall of Fame
  • 1948/49 Cloverleafs – members of the Sport BC Hall of Fame this team won their third consecutive Men’s Senior Championship and featured many stars including Bob Burtwell


The Basketball BC Hall of Fame and Awards Gala will be held at the LEC on April 25, ballroom with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
